Sarawak

Geography - Climate and Weather

Just like any part of Malaysia, Sarawak has an equatorial climate. Its temperature is rather constant in the range of 23°C to 32°C the whole year round. However, it is during the months from March to September, the weather is on the dry and warm side. The humidity level in Sarawak is constantly high on the lowlands where you can expect at least 85% to 95% humidity per year. The rainfall each year is around 3300 mm and 4600 mm depending on the location. The wettest months in Sarawak are during the periods of November to February.

Shopping Guide

Sarawak is a gem when it comes to its natural treasures. It is also a place to shop. There are many large shopping malls in Sarawak to cater to all walks of life. Among the malls in Sarawak are the Tun Jugah Shopping Complex, Green Heights Mall, Riverside Shopping Centre, Crowne Square, Bintang Megamall and The Spring. With this many malls in Sarawak, it makes shopping an inevitable activity when you come visit Sarawak.

Transportation

If you have the budget to rent a car while in Sarawak, that would be the best option. For cheaper alternative, you can always take the bus or the taxi.

Activities

Sarawak is full of outdoor activities to do. There are the Cat Museum, Sibu, Gunung Mulu National Park and the Bako National Park. The Cat Museum is located in Kuching, Sarawak. It was founded back in the year of 1993. The museum has over 2000 exhibits, statues and artifacts related to felines from all over the world. The museum has a space of 1036 square meters on a hull which overlooks the city of Kuching.

Sarawak is just full of lush greenery and an abundance of wildlife. The best example of such incredible greenery and diversity of creatures is at the Bako National Park. The park offers visitors a great introduction to the rainforest and the coastline of Borneo. The park is only 37 kilometers from Kuching, making it easily accessible. The park is one of the very few places in the world which is so populated with so much natural beauty.

It was back in 1957 that the Bako National Park was founded. It is Sarawak's oldest national park which is at a staggering area of 2727 hectares. Its location is at the tip of the Muara Tebas peninsula. It is one of the smallest national parks in Sarawak, yet one of the most interesting, as it contains almost every type of vegetation found in Borneo. The well-maintained network of nature trails allows visitors to get the most out of this unique environment. This certainly is the place to go if you are person who loves the nature. It is also a great place to relax and chill.

Dining / Restaurant

Sarawak is famous for its indigenous delights as well as the freshest seafood. Sarawak offers great seafood at an unbelievable price. Good places to go to enjoy the local delights in Sarawak are at the Waterfront Restaurant and The Spring Food Bazaar. For seafood, the places to go to enjoy great seafood are at the Bukit Mata Seafood Centre and the Rock Road Seafood Restaurant. When in Sarawak, do not miss the chance to try the delicious Sarawak Laksa. The dish is actually vermicelli in a thick soup made of spices, lots of seafood, chicken and sliced omelette. This specialty is best taken when it is still hot. Another specialty in Sarawak is the Kolok Mee. This a commonly found dish in Sarawak. The noodles of this dish are made of eggs and are served in light sauce and some shredded beef. The layered cake of Sarawak is also a dessert not to be missed. They come in various flavors.
